Press Release

Whitney Commercial Real Estate Services named to market former Cambridge Fine Foods plant in southern Ontario

CAMBRIDGE (June 14, 2012) – One of southern Ontario’s top real estate teams has been engaged to sell or lease the former home for Cambridge Fine Foods just south of Highway 401.

Darren Shaw and Nick Boertien of Whitney & Company Realty Limited is marketing the 30,308-square-foot (1,726-square-metre) former food processing facility, located on just over three acres (1.2 hectares) in Cambridge’s Eastern Industrial Park at 416 Franklin Boulevard.

“This is an adaptable facility with extensive infrastructure in place,” said Darren Shaw, Vice President of Whitney. “We’re hoping that given the expertise and focus on food processing in this area, there will be someone eager to put this facility back into production.”

Given the significant infrastructure already in place  including coolers, freezers, heavy power and drains, plus excess land for potential expansion or severance, “a new occupier can be up and going quickly”, added, Nick Boertien.

“We have a very skilled workforce, which is very key here in the Waterloo Region and Guelph area,” added Bill Elliot, Vice President of Business Development for Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc. “Infrastructure in the region is top notch, plus this is a good location to access the total North American marketplace under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).”

Business incentives from the provincial and federal level are available, he said. Also, access to the new Conestoga College Institute for Food Processing Technology (www.ifpt.ca) is a key potential attraction for food companies looking for local support in the area.

“It’s a low-risk business environment with a great quality of life in Waterloo Region,” Elliot said.

Bo Densmore, Director of Economic Development for the City of Cambridge, added that Cambridge is among the fastest growing areas in the country.

“Our strategic location astride Highway 401 in southwestern Ontario makes us an ideal location for ‘Just in Time’ manufacturing and production due our climate and excellent integrated transportation networks,” she said. “Cambridge has a diverse economic base with leading industries in advanced manufacturing, food processing, automotive, high technology, pharmaceutical, business and financial services.”
